Meet Your MBA Colleagues

Jose Portillo

Greetings! My name is Jose Portillo and I am a second-year candidate in the Flores MBA Program. I was born and raised in Honduras, a nation located in the heart of Central America. When I was a child I wanted to follow my dad’s footsteps and become a Doctor but after my first Emergency Room visit I knew life had prepared something else for me. At the age of eighteen I made the asserted decision to move to Baton Rouge and enroll at LSU where I received my bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. After working full-time for EDG Inc., an engineering consulting firm in New Orleans, I decided to pursue my MBA.

Currently, I serve as President of the Flores MBA Association (MBAA). Throughout the school year the MBAA hosts diverse professional development, social and philanthropic activities. The purpose of each activity is to enhance the MBA experience of each candidate and promote their own personal growth.

The Flores MBA Program has surpassed all my expectations in the areas of academics, professional development and networking. Following my MBA, I will aid my brother with the start up of a distribution company. Eventually, I want to run a company that combines my managerial, entrepreneurial and manufacturing interests and become a leader in the expansion of economic development in Honduras.
