Young Professionals Night
September 4, 7pm – 10pm
Fred's Bar and Grill in Tigerland

Fred's is bringing back Young Professionals Night! Emily has wristbands for Friday so you won't have to pay the $10 cover! Draft beer from 7-8 and open bar from 8-10. I recommend you come early and avoid the lines because only Young Professionals can get in before 8! Don't forget to have fun and tip your bartenders ;-) Come find me sometime this week to get a wristband. I will try and make a stop by all the classes on Wednesday and Thursday to pass some out. On Friday, I will leave the remainder of the wristbands in the MBA office with the GA's.

Graduate Assistantship Available

A GA Position is available in the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations at LSU. This office serves as LSU’s central hub for developing strategic partnerships with corporations and private foundations. The position requires a high degree of professionalism, excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a customer service focused attitude.

A complete job description is available here. To be considered for this position, please email your resume to Jennifer Loftin (jloftin@lsu.edu) no later than noon on Friday, September 4.

Philanthropy

Habitat for Humanity Build

The first build for the year has been scheduled for Saturday, September 26th! Yes, this is the morning of the Mississippi State AWAY game that will air later that night, but it was one of the only Saturdays this Fall that works for us! We have reserved 10 spots for MBAA volunteers for Habitat's Port Allen build from 7:45am-3pm. ATTN 2nd years, this means you will earn 7 bonus point in OB class for community service if you sign up and join me :) Email Laney Joffrion at ljoffr1@lsu.edu if you are interested in coming. Habitat only had 10 spots available for this day, so if more than 10 people are interested, I can try to set up a second build for this semester. I can only accept the first 10 people that email me.

Other Philanthropy News

Although I said that I would not overwhelm everyone this year with Philanthropy projects, I thought that it would benefit the 2nd Years (and any service-going 1st years of course) for me to look into some different ways that we can perform service hours for OB class so that we can all get our 10 bonus points! So make sure you read the MBAA newsletter each week for service hour opportunities. Please do not feel like we expect you to participate, but for those who are interested, I'd like to help provide the opportunities! Stay tuned! Also, the Boys Hope Girls Hope Bowling Ball cocktail event has been cancelled for this year. They are instead focusing their efforts towards our Golf Tournament to provide funds for their organization...no pressure! ~Laney Joffrion

Recreation
Attention anyone participating in intramural sports: practices will be starting this weekend and games will be starting next week, so dust off your Tae-Bo VHS tape and start getting in shape. Team captains will email team members their practice and game schedules. Team captains are as follows:

Soccer: Jose Portillo
Basketball: Stan Savage and Otis Adams
Tennis: You are your own captain

Flag Football and Sand Volleyball registration does not open up until the end of September. For those not participating, stay tuned for game dates and come out and support the MBA Ballers.
Players make plays.

Louisiana Looking Up
Congratulations to the Flores MBA students who were randomly selected to receive tickets to Louisiana Looking Up, an annual event established in 2004 that celebrates entrepreneurship in Louisiana.  We’d also like to thank the MBA Alumni Association for donating these tickets to our students.  The winners of these tickets are: Stephen Bacala, Lindsey Crist, Jim Reid, and Danping Yu.

MBAA Dues
Please pay your dues or see Jose, Steven, or Andy. Dues are $200 for your two year membership. Last quarter MBAA dues were listed in the Wall Street Journal's Top 20 Best Return on Investments. Andy "THE ENFORCER" Arnold is an adept accountant, but uses a baseball bat instead of "Allowance for Uncollectible Accounts." This controversial yet effective method is not included in GAAP.
