Justin Cropper gives us a run-down of the most exciting sporting event this week (no, it has nothing to do with the Yankees):
It’s been a pretty good year for the beloved football teams around these parts. Our very own Tigers may control their own destiny to the Rose Bowl while there is definitely an overflow of optimism for the Saints’ chances of doing the unthinkable—winning the Super Bowl.
Did you notice the buzz going around after the undefeated Saints’ came from behind to knock off the Miami Dolphins in their backyard? You must have unless you’re really THAT far removed from what goes on in the sporting world. In any case, I encourage you to start taking notice of a particular football team that is a bit more close to home—or, at least, your classroom. If you haven’t figured it out, I am speaking about the MBA Ballers flag football team that is conquering the fields at the LSU recreation center. Just like the incredible Saints, the MBA Ballers dug deep and rallied for an exhilarating comeback victory against a very worthy opponent, one that was previously undefeated and have outscored its opponents by a 51 to 0 margin. This was accomplished without the team captain and quarterback who had to be out of town because he was trying to get this thing called a job.
The MBA Ballers trailed 14-0 before a miraculous deep pass and catch made it 14-6 just before halftime. After a shaky start to the second half, the team rallied for two more touchdowns, one coming with about a minute left in the game. It took a last second volleyball-like spike in the opponents’ own end zone to secure the well-deserved victory. With the victory, the team finished the regular season undefeated and heads into the playoffs as a team to be reckoned with. Several people deserve to be acknowledged for their play (I encourage those in the know to make sure that they let them know you appreciate their efforts), but in a truly team sport, I will use this medium to recognize all the members of the team. In the order listed on the team roster, the members of the undefeated MBA Ballers are:
Stan Savage (C), Korey Patty, Michael Torsiello, Raleigh Wolfe, Matt Maresh, Justin Cropper, David Rittiner, Alex Boudreaux, Steven Brown, Spencer Drury, Jason Hitt, Matthew Malone, David Stone, Brian McNamara, Dane Valadao, Matthew Adams, Chris Robertson, Zhiejie Li, Dustin Englehart, and Joshua Dehghanpir.
